Getting To College
Onward We Learn invites you to participate in our Getting to College (GTC) program, designed to assist you as you begin to prepare for the college admissions process Onward students will be provided with more information and a better understanding of the college-going process and what lies ahead for them during their senior year of high school.
Program dates: April 10-11 2023 (Providence, Cranston, and Warwick)
April 12-13, 2023 (Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Woonsocket)
Program times: 10 a.m. -2 p.m.
Program location: Moore Hall, Providence College (drop off at 241 Huxley Ave, Providence)

Onward to College
Onward to College is a three-day program to help prepare high school seniors to transition to their first year of college. Students will meet their Onward College Success Coach, enhance their understanding of college life, learn more about the resources available on college campuses, and gain valuable skills to help them succeed as a college student. Students participate in engaging workshops each day as well as activities and discussions that help prepare them to navigate a college environment. Students must commit to attending all three days of the program. Meals and transportation will be provided.

Grade: 12
Notes: This program is open to 12th graders in all districts.

Math Academy
The Math Academy provides support for high school Onward We Learn students who feel less confident in their math coursework. Our goal is to ensure that each student has a chance to practice key foundational skills to become more successful math students, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers. They will also provide individualized learning opportunities, engage the students in teamwork, and incorporate hands-on math activities. Additionally, we will provide test prep support with practice (P)SAT/SAT examples, strategies for breaking down the prompt, and answering multiple choice questions more effectively.
Program dates: Saturdays, March 4 – May 20 (*NO program on April 8 or 15)
Program times: 9 a.m. – noon
Program location: Central High School, 70 Fricker St., Providence
Grades: 9 – 12
Notes: Morning snacks and transportation will be provided.

Writing Academy
The Writing Academy is designed to help build foundational skills in grammar, sentence structure, and organization of thoughts. Students will work on how to make sure they are answering a prompt correctly, how to edit and revise work, and express written thoughts more clearly. Additionally, we will provide basic test prep support for the SAT exam as well as skills for successful formal and informal written responses.
Program dates: Saturdays, March 4 – May 20 (*NO program on April 8 or 15)
Program times: 9 a.m. – noon
Program location: JSEC: Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex, 182 Thurbers Ave, Providence
Grades: 9 and 10
Notes: Morning snacks and transportation will be provided.
College Application and Essay Tutoring
We are providing individualized support for our 11th and 12th graders in any stage of the college application process. This includes filling out the Common App, developing an essay, answering supplemental questions, completing scholarships, and more!
